Portugal’s Emblematic Coin (Gold Proof – 1/4 oz)

In 2026, Portugal will launch its first flagship coin, minted in gold in 1-ounce and 1/4-ounce denominations, to serve as an ambassador for national iconography on the international market. Designed by Baiba Šime, it features the Cross of Christ on the obverse and, on the reverse, the coat of arms with the five shields and seven castles. From 2026 onwards, the coin will be issued annually, reflecting the historical evolution of the Portuguese coat of arms.
